Snowbound Expo 2023 collaborates with BirdieBlue to spotlight the importance of sustainability in winter snow sports

Snowbound Expo proudly announces its collaboration with BirdieBlue to spotlight sustainability at this year’s snow sports event, coming to Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, Nov 3-5, 2023. BirdieBlue will host a Revive, Reuse and Recycle Zone to encourage the snow sports community to upcycle their pre-loved snow sports apparel. Snowbound Expo marks the start of the winter snow sports season for 2023/24 and is the legendary consumer expo for skiers and snowboarders in New England.

Whilst Snowbound Expo is a place for finding the latest products to hit the market for the 2023/24 season, the importance of sustainable snow sports is not missed. BirdieBlue, a courageous and game changing outdoor adventure brand, is committed to generating joy with their business and turning old gear into new products. They turn discarded ski clothes into personality filled, and sustainably created accessories, keeping as many clothes as possible, out of landfills along the way. BirdieBlue has been in action for three years, developing products with a sustainable and transparent production process. The products are made in the USA and are designed to convert old apparel into functional fun accessories.

Snowbound Expo and BirdieBlue will bring the first ever Revive, Reuse and Recycle Zone to life at this year’s event where visitors will be able to drop off their old snow pants, skis bibs, winter jackets, tents, windbreakers, snowsuit onesies from the 90s. BirdieBlue will then upcycle these products into new accessories including sling bags, fanny packs, pouches, and carryalls.

Kate Harvey, CEO of BirdieBlue said “No matter the condition (we LOVE the duct tape look), we’re excited to share our passion for sustainability and show New England our process to revive old gear into new functional bags. We’ll welcome you to the Revive, Reuse, Recycle Zone (Booth f92) for upcycling your old apparel.  You can even have a go yourself and join in the fun of cutting and splicing your old gear. For anyone feeling up to it, we’ll be offering 15% off any new BirdieBlue purchase at the expo if you want to be a part of the process!”

Stuart Dacre, Event Director of Snowbound Expo “We’re extremely passionate about providing a platform for topical discussions at our events. Sustainability is a topic which needs more focus in winter snow sports, and we’re delighted to work with Kate and her team at Birdie Blue to make a difference. It’s a new feature at Snowbound Expo and we’re keen to encourage visitors to be a part of it!”

BirdieBlue accepts snow jackets, ski pants, snow bibs, wind breakers, rain jackets, ripped tents, the rocking 80s onesie snow suit in the back your closet… regardless of the condition. Any old gear that is water resistant and waterproof that has been worn and well-loved is accepted. BirdieBlue will cut around holes, dirt and duct tape in their quest to give old gear new life. They cannot accept puffer jackets, down filled sleeping bags, down filled vests, merino wool base layers, clothing made from natural and cotton fibers etc.

Snowbound Expo is organized by Raccoon Media Group who are also taking steps to ensure that the events are as sustainable as possible. The USA business ambitions are to be net carbon by 2027 and some of the actions include:

  • Challenging all contractors to be more sustainable and actively de-selecting companies that are not making efforts in this area
  • Working with exhibitors to ensure their environmental impact is managed and limited
  • Working with visitors to ensure that their environmental impact is managed and limited
  • Ensuring business activities are delivered with the minimum environmental impact The full sustainability policy can be seen
