We’re avid backcountry splitboarders who fell in love with Japan!
The rising cost of Ikon and Epic passes pushed us to look elsewhere, and as East Coasters, warming winters have made for some rough seasons over the last decade (besides last year, that one was epic, no pun intended 😄). We realized that between Airbnbs, food, and lift tickets, our yearly Colorado trip cost about the same as a trip to Japan… so we gave it a shot one year. We fell in love, and just kept going back every year.
Then we heard about really cheap homes in Japan and wanted to see for ourselves. We did a few consultations with services that help foreigners buy, but all of them could only assist with the purchase, after that, you were on your own. That just wouldn’t work for us being halfway across the world.
Luckily, we found our partner Jacob, who helped us buy our $26,000 home in Otaru, Japan, just 30 minutes from the snowiest resort on the planet (820+ inches a year!). After that, we built YukiHomes.
