Snow Angel Foundation Inc. Launches New Initiative to Prevent Ski Collisions and Promote Slope Safety

Nonprofit Aims to Reduce Accidents Through Education and Awareness

Thermopolis, WY – October 2, 2024 – In response to rising concerns about ski and snowboard accidents, The Snow Angel Foundation, a newly established non-profit dedicated to preventing collisions on the slopes, is proud to announce the launch of its comprehensive safety initiative. The organization aims to promote awareness, education, and advocacy around safe skiing practices to significantly reduce the risk of accidents and collisions at ski resorts.

Each year, thousands of skiers and snowboarders are injured due to preventable collisions with the ground, trees, objects, and other people. The Snow Angel Foundation believes that by implementing proper safety measures, educating skiers, and fostering a culture of slope safety, these accidents can be greatly reduced.

“As ski slopes become more crowded, the importance of safety awareness grows. Our goal is to ensure that everyone, from beginners to experienced skiers, understands the dangers of reckless skiing and the importance of respecting others on the mountain,” said Chauncy Johnson, Executive Director of The Snow Angel Foundation.

Key Initiatives of the Program Include:

  • Educational Campaigns: Distributing materials on safe skiing practices, including speed control, maintaining proper space, and awareness of others.
  • Resort Partnerships: Collaborating with ski resorts to implement signage, training programs, and intervention when necessary.
  • Youth Programs: Teaching young skiers about the importance of slope safety through interactive lessons, ski club, and school partnerships.

“We believe that youth education and on-mountain bystander intervention are the most powerful tools we have to prevent ski collisions,” continued Chauncy Johnson. “Our programs are designed to reach skiers of all ages, helping them stay safe while enjoying the sport they love.”

Upcoming Events: In support of this initiative, The Snow Angel Foundation will host a series of K-12 educational opportunities, webinars, and slope safety events in communities and resorts nationwide. These events will provide hands-on training and demonstrations to promote best practices for skiers and snowboarders.

Get Involved: The Snow Angel Foundation invites skiers, snowboarders, and the general public to join the movement by supporting its mission through donations, volunteering, or attending upcoming events.
