Julie McGuire

Julie McGuire is a high school English teacher, outdoors enthusiast, and avid backcountry skier. On November 30, 2024, she completed a four-year journey becoming the first woman to ski all 33 Catskill High Peaks.

Julie volunteers as a trail maintainer with the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and serves as a board member of the Catskill 3500 Club. She also volunteers with Winter4Kids, where she teaches her students from the South Bronx how to ski. She is currently pursuing a new project to ski the “lower 67,” with hopes of also becoming the first person to ski the 100 highest mountains in the Catskills.

Join us on Saturday to watch Julie’s new short film, Queen of the Catskills, as well as hearing from Julie herself.

After a series of traumatic events, a high school English teacher in the South Bronx begins retreating to the mountains looking to heal. As the wilderness starts to mend her spirit, she rediscovers a past love of skiing, and embarks on a multi-year quest to become the first woman to backcountry ski 33 of the highest peaks in the Catskill Mountains—alone.
