Howdy, I’m Steve and I love to turn; Tele, Alpine, Nordic, Surf, Sup, Foil and MTB.
My ski journey took off as a kid when Dick McNamara became my neighbor. Mac was VP at K2 skis. He hooked me up with great gear that propelled my love for skiing.
I wanted to talk skiing with everyone so I convinced Tom Duran, our local Ski Market manager, to hire me to sell skis as soon as I had a license to drive. (Tom later co-founded Crocs)
Though I’d never raced, I somehow made the Babson College Ski Team. I loved it. Dan Egan, of Warren Miller fame, was a teammate. A racing highlight was competing in NCSA Nationals at Diamond Peak, Lake Tahoe.
Later, as a dad, I got to relive the racing life with my two daughters who skied for Mount Sunapee, our home mountain. It was fun to watch them compete against Mikaela Shiffrin, who did a year on the Ford Sayre team.
Now, my girls have moved west for big mountain skiing and we’ve adopted their home mountains of Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole as our own.
They insisted I complete my AIARE 1 before they’d take me into the back country. Smart girls.
